Home shopping isn’t just about the neighborhood, it is also about finding the type of home that best fits your needs as well. There are many types of homes available in Edmonton’s Luxury real estate market to choose from. We wanted to make your life easier by providing a “cheat sheet” on the types of properties you may find in the Edmonton region.
A bungalow is a one story dwelling, usually with a basement. Bungalows can provide extra convenience for the homeowner because all living areas are designated to a single story. Bungalows are a choice location for persons with impaired mobility or for retirement.
Edmonton Ranch Home
Also a one floor home, the ranch home is usually longer than a traditional bungalow. Some have the front door in the middle of the house, which often indicates a separate dining and living room space. The basements of these homes can be quite large and usually run the full length of the home. Many ranch homes have an attached garage, either double or single, which adds to their long, low appearance.
Edmonton Storey and a Half
This could be described as a bungalow with a living space under the roof, where the attic has been utilized and dormer windows installed in the room. The ceilings in these upper rooms will slope, following the contour of the roof.
Edmonton Two Storey
This refers to a home that has two complete floors with no sloped ceilings. Sometimes Storey and a Half homes are confused with Two Storey homes.
Edmonton Three Level Split
The living room and kitchen are on the ground floor, while the family room is four or five steps down, and the bedrooms will be four or five steps up. Usually the space under the living room, which is at the same level as the floor of the family room is a designated crawl space as it’s typically only around a metre high.
Edmonton Four Level Split
Similar to the Three Level Split, except that the crawl space referred to above has been excavated to provide an extra, extended living room.
