Fairmont Hotel MacDonald - Top Luxury Things in Edmonton

Edmonton is a city that has something for everyone. For families seeking an active lifestyle, Edmonton has limitless options. For people fond of history, archeology, science or sport, it’s got that, too.

But our city has done a lot of maturing these last few years, and one area that has exploded in the last decade is the luxury lifestyle sector. We’ve watched as new and interesting environments for play, shopping and dining have cropped up throughout the city.

So the Paranych Luxury Team has put their heads together to think up the top 5 luxurious things we like to do in Edmonton for those people eager for the a taste of what Edmonton’s upscale lifestyle might offer them.

1. Accommodations – The Fairmont MacDonald Hotel 10065 100 St NW, Edmonton

The ‘Hotel Mac’ is one of western Canada’s most recognizable landmarks. Nestled on the edge of Edmonton’s River Valley, its visual importance is only bested by its historical importance. From dining to events and conferences, to luxurious spas and patio cocktails, the MacDonald Hotel is and Edmonton luxury mainstay.

2. Dining – Zinc Restaurant, 99 Street and 102 Avenue.

Zinc’s modern look and sophisticated menu will appeal to many luxury diners. But the view can also be interesting, as the two-storey windows overlook the Winspear Centre. It’s easy to catch a glimpse of the crowd as they make their way to the Symphony. Their wine collection is impressive and their seasonal seven-course meal is a city highlight.

3. Shopping – Simons (for him and her), West Edmonton Mall, Edmonton

Simons brings a piece of belle Montreal to Edmonton. Featuring exquisite fashions for men and women (priced from moderate to luxury), Simons offers Edmonton high fashion flavour that’s as flexible as you want to be.

4. Driving – October 15th Luxury Test Drive and Networking, Institute of Chartered Accountants, Lexus South Pointe, 100 St. SW

Accountants and their many colleagues will dine and network, testing out the best that Lexus can provide. Events like this go on throughout the year in Edmonton, so it’s good to keep an eye out for the group that best suits your profession!

5. Viewing – Columbia Ice Field and Glacier Walk, Rocky Mountains, Alberta

Yes, it’s not exactly luxury (at $109/person, it’s quite affordable), and it’s certainly not in Edmonton. But this is a once in a lifetime experience. Walking the glaciers in the Rockies is as Albertan as you can get. It’s a three-hour drive west, but the anticipation will make the viewing and learning experience unforgettable.

Edmonton has a lot more going on than we’ve listed, and we encourage you to look around and get a sense of what’s out there. You can find reviews and tidbits about events in magazines like Avenue Edmonton.

Either way, we wish you the best of luck with your pursuits of Edmonton luxury. If you have any questions about luxury homes in Edmonton, or if you’re planning to sell a luxury home, get in touch with us. We’d love to have a conversation!

Edmonton Luxury Landscapes: More than Curb Appeal

Mon, 23 Jun by The Paranych Team

Among the luxury homes in Edmonton, owners are coming up with creative ways to plan and use their outdoor spaces. Many have already created spaces that are refined, luxurious and harmonious with their lifestyles. Having a space that complements the look and feel of a luxury home is important, but new trends suggest that there is more at play when it comes to making the right decisions for your outdoor spaces.

1. Outdoor Design Brings Value

It might be alarming to hear that many people still think that designing and creating an outdoor living space means arranging some trees and shrubs and picking up a patio set from a furniture designer or department store. With Edmonton’s short summers (and harsh winters), taking the time and resources to build a luxury outdoor space might seem, well,  extreme. But a well designed outdoor area can add considerable value to a property. Some estimate that as much as 20% of the overall value can be added to your home, with a 100-200% recovery value when you sell your property. Very few home improvements generate those high returns.

2. Outdoor Landscaping Brings Harmony

I’ve seen my share of grand designs, and they can be dramatic at first glance. But it gets awkward when visitors and guests realize that the space lacks harmony. One of the most easily overlooked details of luxury outdoor design is also one of the most obvious when it’s done incorrectly. Professionals help to plan out the placement of softscape (trees, shrubs, grasses) and hardscape (walls, water features, sculptures and walkways) to best balance the harmony of the area and the activity of homeowners and guests.

3. Outdoor Spaces Should be Versatile

One of the advantages of planning an outdoor living space is that you get ot ask the difficult questions right up front.

“How can I get use of my outdoor space in October or November, when we know that there will be snow on the ground?”

“What activities do I want to be able to perform while entertaining? Do I want to cook while still being able to attend to my swimming guests?”

A seasoned landscape planning professional will look at these questions, not as constraints, but as possibilities. Ultimately, the activities that you plan for you and your guests is critical in determining what will end up where.

Before anyone begins landscaping or even planning their outdoor space, I suggest that they think about what it is that they want to do with their outdoor space, and how they want to use it. The great thing about building an outdoor living space is that it has a very good chance of returning value, so take the time and energy required to make it exactly how you want it.

Edmonton Valley Line LRT

Thu, 27 Mar by The Paranych Team

Edmonton Valley Line LRT received provincial funding!

After the Alberta Government released the 2014 Provincial Budget, which did not include $365 million still needed to get the Edmonton Valley Line LRT built, many Edmontonians had their doubts the project would still go through. However, those thoughts were put to rest when Alberta Premier Alison Redford announced the province will provide up to $600 million to help finance the project. The financial aid breakdown is as follows:

  • • Up to $250 million over the course of three years under GreenTRIP.
  • • Under the new Building Canada Fund up to $150 million in matching provincial funding.
  • • An interest-free loan of up to $200 million to be repaid by The City of Edmonton over 10 years.

The Edmonton Valley Line LRT will run from Mill Woods to 102 Avenue in Downtown Edmonton. As of today, construction is scheduled to begin in 2016 and will hopefully open to the public by the end of 2020. This news was especially well received by residents in southeast Edmonton who have waited nearly a decade for an LRT expansion.

  • • Other Edmonton LRT lines include:
  • • Capital Line: from northeast Edmonton to Heritage Valley
  • • Metro Line: from St. Albert to Health Sciences LRT Station
  • • Festival Line: from Sherwood Park to Ellerslie

Check out the City of Edmonton website for more information on future Edmonton LRT lines.

      • The Eclectic Decorating Style is popular among free-spirited Edmonton homeowners. It balances old and new mismatching elements to create the perfect display of your personality. Don’t be afraid to layer textures, and mismatch your furniture; however, keep your backgrounds plain so you don’t overdo it.
